About

Our aim is to create an environment where children can thrive and flourish at their own pace. We are committed to a child-centered approach to education, which empowers each child to cultivate self-esteem, confidence, and independence. These principles lie at the core of Montessori philosophy, a time-tested method that has been successful for over a century.

At HalfMoon Montessori we register children to start from 2 -4 years old. The children are together in our larger space which creates bonds and community. The children can learn and play alongside one another encouraging peer learning and mentorship.

We are lucky enough to have three outdoor spaces which we use all year round come rain or shine. Pack those hats and coats!

When your child joins Halfmoon Montessori we spend the first week or two getting to know and understand them. At the end of this period your child will be assigned a key worker. This will be the adult your child has formed the strongest connection with.

You will be sent half termly observations. These include pictures of what your child has been doing at Halfmoon nursery and it will tell you all about our topics and your child’s progress.

Central themes to the The Halfmoon Montessori classroom

Child-Centered Learning: Montessori education focuses on the needs, interests, and developmental pace of each child. Children have the freedom to choose activities that captivate their interest, fostering intrinsic motivation and engagement.

  1. Prepared Environment: Classrooms are meticulously designed to offer a variety of learning materials that are accessible and appealing to children. The environment is structured to promote independence, allowing children to explore and learn with minimal adult intervention.
  2. Independence and Autonomy: Montessori education emphasizes self-reliance. Children are encouraged to do things for themselves, which builds confidence and practical life skills.
  3. Hands-On Learning: Montessori materials are tactile and designed for hands-on learning. This approach helps children understand abstract concepts through concrete experiences, making learning more meaningful and effective.
  4. Mixed-Age Classrooms: Children of different ages learn together in the same classroom. This arrangement encourages peer learning, with older children mentoring younger ones, fostering a sense of community and cooperation.
  5. Respect for the Child: Montessori educators respect each child as an individual with unique talents and abilities. This respect extends to listening to the child’s needs and observing their behaviour to guide their learning journey.
  6. Intrinsic Motivation: The Montessori method fosters a love of learning by allowing children to pursue their interests and passions. This intrinsic motivation is more sustainable and impactful than external rewards.
  7. Whole-Child Development: Montessori education addresses all areas of development—cognitive, emotional, social, and physical. The goal is to nurture well-rounded individuals who are prepared for all aspects of life.
